PROGRAM

Potash Mining in New Mexico with Dan Morehouse, Mine Engineering Superintendent, Mosaic Potash Carlsbad

Mosaic's Potash facility in Carlsbad operates one of the largest underground mines in the United States. This location mines two separate potassium minerals: sylvite and langbeinite. Mosaic Potash Carlsbad mines 25,000 tpd using continuous miners on 4 active mining levels. The underground workings are spread over 55 square miles of land, with over 3500 miles of tunneling completed since mining started in the basin in 1938. The ore lies between 450 and 1200 feet below the surface and is intersected by 7 vertical shafts.
